BRANCH ACTIVITIES REPORT

This year, the IEEE – VESIT Student Branch was especially active. The following is a report of all activities conducted :

MEETINGS

  1. TECHNICAL (including Speakers, Panel Discussions and Plant Tours) TOTAL: 13

  This year, the IEEE - VESIT Student Branch arranged a plethora of activities for its members, among which were technical talks, a technical tour, a panel discussion and technical film shows.

  1. Technical Talks:Technical Talks:
    • Technical talk on Avionics (applications of electronics and computers in the aviation industry) by Dr. Satish Modh of Air India, on 12 September 1998. Please Click here for details

The following talks were given as part of the IEEE Week, during the Technical and the Internet Symposia.

    • Talk on "DNA Computing" by Prof. J A Gokhale, Head, Dept. of Computer Engineering at our college.
  1. Technical Film Shows: Technical Film Shows:

    Technical Film shows were held on ISDN and Digital Loop Carrier Systems. This activity was also a part of the IEEE Technical Week. Please Click here for details. 

  2. Technical Tour:

    The IEEE - VESIT Student Branch conducted a technical tour this year in the month of September, 1998, to Pune, where student members got to see the PARAM 10000 Supercomputer, the second fastest supercomputer in the world, the industrial robots at the TELCO automobile plant. The Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) was another facility that was visited in the course of the tour. Please Click here for details of the tour .

  3. Panel Discussion: Panel Discussion:

      A Panel Discussion on " Graduate Education and its importance" was held as part of the IEEE Week, during the course of the SPAC. Please click here for details about the panel discussion.

  1. PROFESSIONAL (including S-PACS) TOTAL: 4

    The IEEE - VESIT Student Branch, arranged an SPAC this year as part of the IEEE Week. The SPAC was aimed mainly at exhibiting career opportunities and alternative educational qualifications that the students could obtain after they graduated as engineers. Please click here for details on the SPAC. The following talks were given as part of the SPAC:

  1. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES (fund raising events, pizza parties, dances, etc.) TOTAL: 2

    A fund raising event was conducted in the months of January and February 1999, in order to raise money for financing the IEEE Week. In addition to this, the organizing committee and student members who participated in the IEEE Week spent the month of January looking for sponsors for the IEEE Week.

  2. ACTIVITIES HELD JOINTLY WITH LOCAL SECTION (mentor programs, day with an engineer, sponsored dinners, etc.) TOTAL: 5

    Our Student Branch members have actively participated in activities conducted by the IEEE Bombay Section, as well as activities conducted by Region 10 and activities conducted by other student branches in India. Branch members have:

  • Participated in the IEEE Bombay Section Student Paper Contests.
  • Participated in the IEEE Bombay Section Student Design Contests.
  • Participated in the Region 10 "WWW Student Branch Website" Contest.
  • Participated in a technical fete called 360 degrees, organized by other IEEE Student Branches in Bombay. The members have made the branch proud by securing an overall second place in the contests that were held during the course of the fete. Please Click here for details
  • Participated along with 4 other IEEE Student Branches, to assist the IEEE Bombay Section in starting a technical student newsletter called "Short Circuit:"
  1. OTHER ACTIVITIES (including projects like Careers Day, Bendix project, Student Paper Contest, etc.) TOTAL: 8

    Besides this, the branch has conducted various activities during the course of the year, namely:

Technical Quiz Contest, conducted as part of the IEEE Week

  • One of the more regular activities of the branch is getting student members to write technical articles for the Branch newsletter called "Innovation".
